Alcazar Dies From Brain Injuries After World Title Loss

LAS VEGAS -- Panamanian Pedro Alcazar has died from a brain injury two days after losing his WBO junior bantamweight world title to Mexican boxer Fernando Montiel.
Alcazar, making his second defense, was stopped in the sixth round of the fight in Las Vegas on Saturday.
According to top rank promotions, the 26-year-old fighter collapsed in his hotel room on Monday.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission said he was taken to hospital where he died from profuse swelling of the brain around 40 hours after the fight, Reuters reported.
The bout was on the undercard of the Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales featherweight WBC title fight at the MGM Grand.
